a) Air Testing:
Air testing is the process of checking indoor environments—like homes, offices, or schools—for the presence of mold spores. In
optimum conditions,
mold levels inside your dwelling shouldn’t be higher than those outside of it, in the exterior environment, as seen in the diagram below.
You can have mold and not know about it.
- Hidden growth: Mold often grows behind walls, under carpets, or in HVAC systems—places you can’t easily see.
- Water damage: After leaks or flooding, testing helps determine if mold has taken hold.
A roof leak could cause mold issues as early as in a few days after the leak, as shown in the diagram below.
b) Surface Testing: Surface mold sampling is a method used to detect and identify mold growth on visible surfaces. It's often employed when there's suspected mold but the type or extent isn't clear.
Here's a breakdown of what you should know:
There are two primary methods of surface testing
- Tape Lift Samples: Best for smooth surfaces like drywall or tile.
- Swab Samples: Ideal for textured or hard-to-reach areas (e.g., HVAC vents, carpets).
Can identify mold types like Stachybotrys or Chaetomium, which may not show up in air samples.
STEP #2: THE REPORT
After the inspection, the collected samples are studied in a certified laboratory for microscopic analysis in order to identify what types of mold are present, the quantity, and whether its presence poses a potential health risk. Afterwards, the results are sent back to us to interpret into a comprehensive
final mold report.
